You may have the following on your desk:

-pencil/pen
-binder paper
-organizer/outline

( I will pass out the packets with the articles. You MAY NOT use the ones I gave you)

PROMPT: Should your school participate in the national "Shut Down Your Screen Week?" Be sure to use EVIDENCE from the texts, as well as your own knowledge to develop and support your thinking.

Note: We will review your literary analysis assignment on Wednesday!!

Friday

Good morning and Happy Friday!! You're almost to Spring Break!

Here is today's agenda:

1. Review thesis prep page
2. Work on Argumentative Support page ( find TWO pieces of supporting evidence for your three reasons)

HW: Complete the argumentative outline over the weekend!! It will help you with the Performance Task, that will be what we work on Monday and Tuesday in class.

Reminders:

-Literary Analysis re-dos are due next Wednesday, no exceptions
-Your DATA SHEETS will not be due 3/31...we will talk about this Monday

Wednesday

Happy Hump Day Honors students!

Here is the agenda for today:

1. Journal: How do you feel as though technology has changed your relationships with other people? Do you consider your interpersonal connection better or worse with the innovations of texting, Twitter, Facebook, and the like? Be specific!!

2. Pass out essay prep packets/review thesis prep directions

3. SDS Text #3- "Attached to Technology and Paying a Price"

-This text lists a lot of negatives associated with technology, meaning it gives supporting reasons why WE SHOULD participate in Shut Down the Screen week (PRO SIDE OF ORGANIZER). HOWEVER, the author does list one "positive" of technology (CON SIDE OF ORGANIZER)

HW: If you do not finish reading the article and completing the organizer in class, do so for HW and I will check it Friday.

ALSO: decide tonight what stance you are going to take-to participate or not participate in SDS week? You will be formulating your thesis in class tomorrow so be prepared!!

-Completing this organizer will count for classwork/participation points and will help you A LOT with your in class essay.

Tuesday

Good morning English II students!!

Here is the agenda for today:

1. Journal (on a separate piece of paper) respond to the following:

In your opinion, what are the downfalls of having too much technology? What are some NEGATIVE effects this has had on your generation? What would be hardest about going without technology for a week? BE PREPARED TO SHARE.

2. SDS Text #2: "Is Google Making us Stupid?"

You will need:

-text analysis organizers
-pen/pencil

In PARTNERS, you will read the next article in the packet, write your names on the second page of the packet.

There are TWO sources for this article, listed at the bottom of each section.

The first section discusses how Google/Internet do make us stupid, the second section discusses how it does not make us stupid.

For the organizer, the "Yes" section = why we SHOULD participate in SDS week. The "No" section= why we SHOULD NOT participate in SDS week.

Pay careful attention to what claims each author is making.

You have the remainder of the class period to work on this.

HW: If you did not finish the organizer in class, finish it for HW and I will check it tomorrow.

Happy Friday Honors students!

Please turn in AOW 4 to the basket WHEN YOU LEAVE

Those of you that did not finish your Latin Roots Midterm yesterday need to finish it TODAY at break or lunch.

1. Please take out your editorials, a colored pen, and a pencil.

2. Find a partner to work with, pick someone that will be honest with you about your editorial. If there is a need for a group of three, see me.

3. Peer Editing: today, you are going to help each other out with peer editing; you will each complete your OWN peer editing form.

Steps:

-Read your partner's editorial, take note of the tone of their editorial. Put a star next to things you really like or a question mark next to things that are confusing.
-Fill out the boxes on the form, complete those before answering the questions, if you do not get to the questions today that is fine.

The point of peer editing is not to make changes for your partner, but point out what changes they should make to make their editorial more effective.

NO ONE should have any boxes left blank, there is always something that could be improved!

HW: over the weekend, make the changes from the peer edit form. This means you will:

1. Write another hand written draft, label it "Editorial Draft #2"
2. Highlight any changes/additions you make to your editorial- as you make changes, make sure you are sharing YOUR thoughts on the topic, let your emotions show and be passionate about your opinions. Do not simply relay research- HAVE FUN WITH IT :)

The second draft is not an option, nor am I having you do it to be "cruel." This is part of the writing process and learning how to become successful writers.

You will submit this second draft with your first draft, the peer edit form, and your final copy. If you do not include the second draft, you will lose points off the final grade.
